Appraisal Fee Estimates

JY&A considers the following conditions when estimating our appraisal fee:

​

  • Time for the appraiser to complete a project: an appraisal can go from weeks to a couple of years, depending on the number of artists and items to appraise;

  • Number of appraisers working on the project: complex appraisals may solicit more than one appraiser's effort to complete the projects within the required deadline; 

  • Type of appraisal: different types of appraisal directly impact the time the appraiser(s) need to complete the project;

  • The artist: well-known artists usually have easily accessible sources, while an emerging artist requires the appraiser to dig to find resources and/or other similar artists for comparables.

We charge our clients upon the following terms:

​

  • Hourly rate

  • Project rate (flat fee)

  • Daily rate

  • Pre-paid retainer

​


We do not apply the sales commission payment method in appraisal projects.

We accept cases with a minimum estimated value of: $20,000

​

  • Hourly rate 

Regular case: $150

Urgent case: $180​

​

  • Daily rate

Regular case: $1,080

Urgent case: $1,300

​

  • Project rate (flat fee)

Regular case: $2,500 +

Urgent case: $3,200 +

​

  • Pre-paid Retainer Fee for general consultancy

The services helping clients with various inquiries at their convenience include information about the global art industry, its structure, related professionals, practices, regulations, key topics, and the latest news and trends:

Quarterly: $3,750 / Client 

Semiyearly: $7,000 / Client

Yearly: $13,000 / Client

  • Case Review 

We are happy to provide Case Review Services to our clients, and we are more than glad to help you source the right appraiser or expert for your appraisal business if we are not the ones to work on your case.

You may consider requesting our Case Review Service if you find yourself confronting  the following situations:
(i) You need our help reviewing your case to determine the value of your collection and the next step in operation
(ii) You need to determine which specific field your collection belongs to 
(iii) You need our help to decide which appraiser in our network would be the most appropriate to hire
If you require insight and advice in the appraisal of your collection that extends beyond the fine art field, such as in finance, taxation, or law, we are also here to help.
Fee calculation: charged with a $150 hourly rate for up to 10 hours of work; we switch to a Project rate (flat fee) when the review time goes beyond 10 hours.

* The rates and fees listed above are estimates only. The final cost will depend on the actual duration of each project, the complexity of the appraisal, and any additional services required, such as restoration or authentication.

* All rates and fees are exclusive of taxes.
* The client is responsible for covering domestic and international travel expenses, accommodations, meals, photography, and any other costs related to each appraisal project.
